3D CNC Router
Jan 22nd, 2012 by admin

The 3D CNC Router gives the reliability and performance of more expensive CNC machines. The Personal Robotics System (PRS) includes everything that you will need to get up and running: the tool, the table and the software. No matter what your needs are, routing, sculpting, cutting, or machining, the program that you need is available. No longer is this type of technology available only for large companies; it is now available for small businesses who like to compete at higher levels, who like to be able to offer their clientele the type of service that they deserve and to those who want to expand and incorporate new technologies into their business.

This type of technology can be incorporated into many different projects and can cut your time in half. You will be able to work faster and produce quality products that will make every customer happy. From sign making to woodworking, the 3D CNC router offers you the ability to offer 3D work that is sure to please.

Real 3D features will stand out among the rest. 2D carves do not stand out. 3D carves stand out and stand up, making them unique and very noticeable. 3D uses angles and curves to cut the path. The X, Y, and Z axes are used. Also with 3D, you will design in 3D. Even though the former 2.5D option was cutting in 3D like moves, the design process was still 2D, not 3D.

The 3D CNC Router offers more complex carving, unique features and design options. Designing and the actual tool-path creation is two different things completely and there are different software programs for each. You must learn how to separate the two.

No longer will your design process be flat drawing lines, now you will model your design. You build up the design using different 3D shapes and with the right program this actual model will reflect over onto the tool path. This means that what you were previously used to, will no longer be with the 3D CNC router.

Clip Art/Models

If you don’t do enough 3D projects to justify the cost of the 3D modeling software, you do not have to worry about it. There are companies who offer 3D clip art that can be used with the 3D CNC router. If you do not use the software program enough, your proficiency level as an artist will not be high. The 3D clipart option could be the best option for you.

Purchasing 3D models via the web may not be best. Usually these models have been developed for other uses such as video, etc. They are not developed explicitly for cutting; however, you can purchase 3D models that are specifically designed for cutting and this would be the right option for you. So, when considering purchasing 3D models instead of developing your own, make sure that you purchase the right ones. The resolution quality will be better and they will allow you to change the scale of the model, if needed.

Wooden Model Ships – How Hard is it to Build?
Jan 8th, 2012 by admin

Wooden model ships have been in existence for a long time. Even during the times of the Ancient Egyptians, their ship-builders made wooden models which were scaled down models of the real ships.

Discovering these ships from those times amply proves that model ship building was also a hobby since time immemorial.

If you are interested in wooden model ship building, rest assured that there is no more satisfying hobby. There are two methods to build a wooden model ship. One is to build them by using plans and the other is to buy a kit.

There are many kinds of wooden model ships you can build. You could build the easy sail boat to a slightly more difficult yacht. You could build a boat used by the ancient Vikings, Egyptians, Greeks, and the Romans. There are plans available for all kinds of ships – schooners, fishing boats, dhows, and even warships.

If you are fascinated by any particular ship – lets say a World War II ship U.S.S America – just Google that and you will be able to get plans for that. Some may be free but that is not likely all the time.

Wooden ship models can be built using kits or from the ground up. If you are taking the second option you should prepare yourself for a long time in your work-shop which can sometimes be very frustrating.

Let me caution you that building a model wooden ship is not that easy. It does require a fair bit of knowledge in wood working and engineering. If you do have that it should not be very difficult for you. Bt even if you do have some knowledge but if you are a first timer in this ship -building exercise I would suggest that you get yourself a wooden ship model kit.

The difference being that in the kit you get all the parts and you only have to put them together. You will not need any specialised tools unlike building from scratch using a plan.

Even among the kits available there are kits for the first timer, the intermediate level and the expert. It is recommended that you get yourself a kit which is easier to handle with precise instructions. It is no fun getting something which is too difficult to construct! Your love for the hobby will disappear even before you started. The first time will always be a bit difficult and confusing. But keep at it and you will get the hang of it.

After you have worked with the entry level kits you can work your way up the ladder adding on ships which are more elaborate and complex.

Pergola Plans For DIY Wood Pergola Projects
Jan 6th, 2012 by admin

Pergolas can easily be built with the help of simple pergola plans even without previous carpentry experience, as I did for my patio pergola. Wood is a warm, cozy, yet pliable material that makes the perfect choice for an outdoor pergola. Whether you choose to build your pergola in the garden or over the patio, this beautiful structure can be built by following a plan that can help you save money over ready made kits.

It is important to choose the location first, as the final product will have a dramatic effect on the whole landscape. Once done that, it is just a matter of purchasing the materials and tools, or borrowing some of them if too expensive. Nails, a hammer, nuts and bolts, sandpaper and a hand saw are always at hand in a household, but you may need to borrow electric tools such as an electric saw, an angle grinder and a drill.

Woodworking can be one of the most satisfactory activities even if a novice, providing a good plan of action is met. In order to build a DIY pergola I followed some simple yet accurate instruction in a design of my choice from a range of pergola plans. The project was laid out step by step, from post foundations, to post rigging and alignment, height, width, size and shape for all joists, rails and posts. It did require some work, sawing, cutting and sand blasting before all the pieces could be assembled together.

Over all, it took me one long weekend and the help of a friend to build my DIY pergola. The project went smoothly except for few minor mistakes that were easily corrected thanks to the wood pliability. In my specific case the pergola was attached to a pre existing first floor front deck, so as to extend the shady area over the ground floor front patio. The results have been impressive to me. I was even more impressed with the money saved in the process, as a ready made pergola kit can cost up to $5000.

What I would not save money on though, is wood. I chose a very tough and beautiful tropical hard wood, but it could easily have been cedar or any other quality construction wood. These woods are naturally weather resistant, though they may gray and darken with time.

To avoid that, I stained my pergola with a UVA and rain resistant resin paint that additionally brought out all the natural wood texture and beauty, giving it a glossy and gorgeous look. I was actually surprised how good it looked in the end, considering that I was at first hesitant to implement the project. The design of my choice has a tight rail span to provide extra hold for climbing plants or hanging flowers. No much sun is coming through at all, providing a cool relaxation area to share with family and friends.

Other styles may come in different sizes and shapes, like circular or triangular, or be designed as free standing structures in the garden or attached to the house, say over a patio. Over all, pergola plans help you enhance your garden landscape, save money over ready made kits, provide a focal point where to socialize, improve household livability and increase property value as an added bonus.
